Travel: Marrakech Morocco Summer 2016

During the height of summer in 2016, I made a design and vintage research trip to Marrakech, Morocco. This was my second trip here and first for business reasons. This is one of the most beautiful and inspirational cities in the world. It's not a wonder that it has attracted bohemian- minded designers and creatives for centuries. We stayed at Ryad Dyor which is a gorgeous, privately-held boutique residence in the heart of the walled city. It was a bit tough to find at times with high walls and rabbit warren-like pathways that pass as streets. This city is meant to be walked and explored. The souk in the medina has a mix of great products and not so great. The purchase and negotiation process requires a bit of patience for those of you that are not used to bargaining. I hope to return to this beautiful city many times and hopefully next time with Beth and the kids as they speak French which would be helpful. Here is the link to my city map: Marrakech Map

Le Jardin Majorelle, is a must see garden experience in Marrakech. It was the product of many long years of planting from the artist Louis Majorelle and is accented with the blue color he favored the most. It was bought by Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Berge who painstakingly brought it back to perfect shape after many years of disrepair. Don't miss the Berber Museum that is also on the property and celebrates the vintage craft and culture of the nomadic Berber tribes people.
